Switch

Function: To interrupt or allow the flow of electricity. 

How it works: It is a manual control that "breaks" (opens) or "completes" (closes) the electrical circuit. 

Examples:

A standard toggle switch for a light. 

A dimmer switch to control light intensity. 

An isolator switch to completely cut off power for maintenance. 

Socket

Function: To provide a point of connection to the electrical power supply. 

How it works: It has jacks or slots that accept a plug, delivering power to the connected device. 

Examples:

A two-pin socket for ungrounded connections. 

A three-pin socket, which adds a ground pin for safety to prevent electric shock. 

Universal sockets that can accept different types of plugs.
